Evidenced Informed Trauma Aware Recovery
The courage it took to get this far – don’t underestimate that.
Addiction, depression and PTSD are nervous system adaptations to pain, disconnection and unmet needs. The prefrontal cortex – responsible for decision-making, impulse control and regulation — is directly compromised by chronic stress and trauma. Trauma by its very nature can cause us to isolate, to struggle to find the words – so talk therapy alone often falls short of what we need to move through things.
After working with many people with various types of Trauma and assisting them to move through mental or physical health challenges – one thing has stood out the most. The body and mind working together can be our best allies to feeling our way back home again.
You do not have to be at any specific fitness ability to do this work. I will meet you where you are at. I also work in with your chosen allied health team – if and when useful to support you and your health and wellbeing.
Who is this for:
People in recovery from addiction or substance misuse Those navigating depression, anxiety or PTSD People who have experienced trauma and want body-based support Those who have tried talk therapy and want an approach that also works with the body. Carers supporting someone through recovery.
Allied health professionals wanting to deepen trauma-aware practice.
My Mindfulness Based Approach to helping you:
Over thirty years of nursing, mental health and addiction work, combined with evidence-based mindfulness practice. Sessions are structured but responsive — starting from what’s most alive for you right now. The question worth asking isn’t what’s wrong with you. It’s what happened to you — and what you needed that you didn’t get. The mind can reframe the story. The body still holds the original. This is used as a doorway to connection (not re-traumatisation or having to re-tell your story) This Mindfulness Based Trauma Care integrates nervous system care, neuroscience (if/when the time is right) and most of all customised take home practices (that first we practice together)
You will always leave with something you can use in daily life. Especially during times of challenge.
My Mindful Tools we may draw upon
