Stealth Yoga – How Doctors, Teachers, Allied Health Professionals, Nurses are becoming Undercover Yogis

Stealth Yoga

How Doctors, Teachers and Allied Health Professionals Are Quietly Changing Lives — One Breath at a Time

The Undercover Yogis

Not everyone who trains in yoga and mindfulness wants to teach a class.

Some of the most impactful graduates from programs I’ve delivered have been GPs who brought breathwork into consultations. Surgeons who used body scanning before operating. Teachers who began classrooms with two minutes of stillness and watched behaviour change. Nurses who wove somatic awareness into patient conversations without calling it anything at all.

Undercover yogis. Stealth practitioners. People who took what they learned and slipped it invisibly into what they were already doing and transformed how they did it.

From the training programs — something powerful I’ve witnessed

People come to train as yoga or mindfulness teachers and walk away with a new level of self-awareness that changes how they work. They come expecting certification. They leave with insight. That insight ripples into every person they work with, live with, or parent.

On our recent training in Mackay & Sunshine Coast – we had nurses and OT’s (Occupational Therapists) – discussing how clients they work with – who have challenges with feeling sensation, registering hunger or pain, or articulating emotions – with the use of the Mindfulness Practices we deliver in the training can make big improvements in these areas.

Why Professionals Come to This Training

They come for different reasons:

Burning out and needing something that works with the body. A personal practice they want to deepen. The formal certification, the continuing education hours.

What they consistently walk away with is something they didn’t expect: a new relationship with themselves. Insight into the patterns that have been driving them. A toolkit they can use immediately, at work or home – anywhere.

It Doesn’t Have to Be on a Schedule

A surgeon or nursing staff who pauses for three breaths before a difficult procedure.  A teacher who brings full presence to a student in crisis. A G.P who learns Mindfulness or Compassionate Inquiry Practices to help their patients.

What the Training Offers

Certified programs at 200, 300 and 500 hours — in person on the Sunshine Coast, Mackay (Whitsundays region) rural and remote and online. Designed to be accessible to people in full-time professional roles.

Mentoring programs for integrating what you’ve learned without committing to full training.

Continuing education hours and certification counting toward professional development in many allied health fields.

The Ripple Goes Further Than You Think

Every person who trains and integrates these practices carries them forward in so many different ways – most of them happen off the yoga mat. It’s why I call it ‘Stealth Yoga’.

The patient who feels listened to. The student or employee who remembers their teacher or boss pausing to ask ‘What’s happening for you’ –  breathing with them to help them regulate their nervous system.

The Yoga and Mindfulness can help inspire personal or professional projects that have deep meaning – for example the book that finally gets written. The Trainings or Mentoring Program can become a foundation for creative flow.  The family that benefits from a parent who learned how to regulate themselves. Or the husband or wife that recovers with support from the death of a loved one or divorce. That’s why this work has a priceless ripple effect. The Yoga off the Mat becomes something that gets them through what ever challenge they are faced with.

A note on Yoga NRG (Energy)

The training programs I founded continue at Yoga Energy – yogaenergy.com.au — the Sunshine Coast’s established yoga and mindfulness school since 2006. If you’re looking for a community, group classes or a place to practise, that’s where you’ll find it. If you’re one of those people who feels drawn to this work — you probably already know it. The ripple starts with you.

This blog draws on case experience from Tammy’s upcoming book on trauma, yoga and mindfulness — a clinical and lived-experience guide to nervous system healing.
